Ross got his first LEGO set in 1969, for his 5th birthday.
It was the push-along train set, 111.
He became interested in Technic with the release of the early Expert Builder sets,
and built mostly Technic style models until about 1981, when he went to college.
After a LEGO “dark age” of about 20 years, he rediscovered the hobby when he found a Mindstorms RIS set in a toyshop.
Since finding out how large the AFOL community is, he has been involved in both the local and online communities.
An early member of the (MUGS), and founding member of the Melbourne LEGO train club,
he enjoys helping those communities grow.
He was also one of the main organizers of Brickvention,
the inaugural national Australian LEGO convention in Melbourne in June 2006,
and plans are already underway for the next Brickvention in January 2008.
In January 2007 he participated in the “Bridging Sydney” exhibition at the Museum of Sydney,
which along with newspaper articles and radio interviews, provided a chance to interact with museum visitors,
explaining about the LEGO community, and hopefully providing some motivation for kids to build more with their LEGO bricks.
It also provided an opportunity to work with LEGO Australia on an AFOL project,
which hopefully is something that will happen even more in future.
He is also active in several online LEGO communities, in various roles.
While his primary building focus is still Technic, he now spends considerably more time experimenting with other themes,
including Town, Train, and even a small dabble in Space.
